Olivetti Valentine — Iconic 1960s Italian Typewriter

An original Olivetti Valentine, one of the most iconic and recognisable typewriters ever created.

Designed by Ettore Sottsass and Perry King for Olivetti at the end of the 1960s, the Valentine was conceived as something completely different from the traditional office typewriter. With its distinctive bright red body and matching carrying case, it became an icon of Italian design and Pop-era aesthetics.

Today, the Valentine is considered a true design collectible, with examples held in major museum collections including The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.

This particular machine is in excellent vintage condition and has been carefully checked and serviced. It is fully functional and ready to be used for writing, displayed as a design piece, or added to a collection.

The Valentine was designed to make the typewriter feel personal, colourful and portable rather than something confined to an office. Its lightweight ABS body and distinctive carrying case made it radically different from the machines that came before it.

More than fifty years later, it remains one of Olivetti’s most celebrated designs — a functional typewriter and a piece of design history.
